Great Hammerhead requirements and Deluxe access

Frontier’s Zoopedia marks this species Deluxe, not BaseGame. Check edition contents before planning a zoo around it. The aquarium values below are official game-care fields, not a real-world shark enclosure specification.

Plan the tank around the hammerhead first

  1. Confirm Deluxe access and choose whether the initial plan is one shark or a male–female pair. Do not use a two-male or two-female group as the starting plan.
  2. Build a staff-accessible aquarium with grade 3 barriers, then connect its staff gate and filtration. Set saltwater and a temperature within 20–28°C.
  3. Check the 960 m² minimum deep swimming field and the separate 240 m² additional-animal value in the aquarium planner. Neither value is a minimum tank volume in litres.
  4. After placing scenery and introducing the shark, inspect the game’s accessible deep-water measurement, terrain and individual welfare. Recheck these after any layout or group change.

Terrain: at least 20% sand

A rock-heavy display can exceed the 20% rock limit, while an all-soil floor misses the 20% sand minimum. Apply these as separate allowed coverage ranges, then use the game’s terrain panel to confirm the result rather than adding the maxima into a recipe.

Why a population range of 1–2 does not allow every pair

A single hammerhead fits the population range. A mixed pair can fit the one-male and one-female limits, but two sharks of the same sex exceed the corresponding bachelor maximum. The mating-system field is Promiscuous; it does not override these limits.

Can Great Hammerheads share a mixed-species tank?

The captured Great Hammerhead record lists no Neutral relationships and no Thriving relationships. Do not import the Blacktip Reef Shark’s tankmate list: the two shark species have different records.

No listed relationship is not the same as a confirmed incompatibility with every species. It does mean this source does not establish a recommended mixed-species pairing. Begin with the hammerhead’s own needs and use current in-game compatibility information before adding other animals.

Breeding: maturity at 15 game years

The Easy reproduction label should be read alongside the 15-year maturity age. A young pair is not necessarily ready to breed just because its enclosure is suitable.

The possible litter of up to six is larger than the preferred total population maximum of two. Plan how to manage the offspring and recheck the game’s population and space panels as the group changes. These values describe game systems, not real-world reproductive measurements.

Hammerhead or Blacktip Reef Shark?

The hammerhead has the larger published deep-swimming minimum: 960 m² versus the Blacktip Reef Shark’s 210 m². It also requires grade 3 rather than grade 2 barriers, allows 1–2 rather than 1–10 animals, and is Deluxe rather than base game.

Both use saltwater, but the hammerhead’s 20–28°C range and the blacktip’s 22–28°C range are not identical. Matching water type alone does not make them a confirmed compatible pairing. Review the full animal database for other aquarium options and the aquarium guide for filtration and access.
