Blacktip Reef Shark aquarium requirements

This is a base-game aquarium species, with a smaller published deep-swimming minimum than the Deluxe Great Hammerhead. The minimum and additional-animal fields below are separate inputs; they are not a complete blueprint or a litre-based tank target.

Set up a shark aquarium in four checks

  1. Choose the intended group first. One shark is within the listed range; a larger group needs the additional-animal space field and its sex composition checked before purchase.
  2. Build the aquarium with grade 2 barriers and a staff gate connected to a usable path. Connect filtration, select saltwater and set temperature within 22–28°C.
  3. Verify accessible deep swimming space and terrain after scenery is placed. The aquarium planner keeps area fields separate from tank volume.
  4. Introduce the planned group and review each shark’s welfare. If adding tankmates later, compare their water, space and population requirements individually rather than assuming the relationship label covers them.

Fine sand matters more than coarse sand

Do not collapse the two sand categories into a generic sand target. The record requires at least 20% fine sand but allows only 5% coarse sand. A coarse-sand floor can therefore fail even when it looks like suitable shark scenery. These are allowed ranges, not percentages that must all reach their maxima.

Coarse sand0–5%

Group size: 1–10, with separate mixed-sex limits

The preferred total population is 1–10. A male-only or female-only group has a maximum of 10. For a mixed group, each sex has a maximum of 9, with the overall total still capped at 10.

For example, the mixed-sex caps are not permission to place nine males and nine females together. Read them alongside the total population field. The mating-system label is Promiscuous, and the reproduction record can produce several offspring, so leave a population-management plan for breeding groups.

All twelve listed Neutral tankmates

Frontier’s record lists these as Neutral relationships, not Thriving bonuses. No Thriving relationship is listed. The internal eagle-ray identifier resolves to the public animal name Ocellated Eagle Ray in the official roster.

A listed pairing is a candidate to check, not approval for every possible combination of all twelve species. Use the animal database to compare each animal’s environment and group needs, then confirm the built tank in the game. Ocean Sunfish and Great Hammerhead are not on this Blacktip Reef Shark Neutral list.

  • Hawksbill Turtle; Javanese Cownose Ray; Ocellated Eagle Ray.
  • Giant Grouper; Humphead Wrasse; Sailfin Snapper.
  • Indo-Pacific Leopard Shark; Sand Tiger Shark.
  • Blackspotted Puffer; Red Lionfish; Dolphinfish; Clown Triggerfish.

Breeding and offspring planning

A litter can contain two to five offspring, so a group near the ten-animal maximum needs attention before breeding. Check the individual animals’ maturity and the live breeding controls, then review population and accessible space as the group changes.

These are the game’s stored reproduction fields. Do not treat the short interbirth interval as a promise of continuous births or as real-world shark biology.

What to check when welfare falls

For water-network access, cleaning and filtration, continue to the aquarium guide. A clean, functioning tank and a Neutral relationship do not by themselves prove that every welfare category is satisfied.

  • Confirm saltwater and an actual temperature inside 22–28°C.
  • Inspect fine sand and coarse sand separately: minimum 20% fine sand, maximum 5% coarse sand.
  • Check the accessible deep-swimming field after adding scenery or more animals.
  • Check the total population and the applicable bachelor or mixed-group limits.
  • Follow the individual welfare panel for feeding, enrichment and health issues not fully captured by this data record.
