Ocean Sunfish aquarium requirements

Frontier’s Ocean Sunfish entry lists an aquarium-only, base-game species. These are the separate published care fields, not a tank-volume formula. Deep swimming area is measured in square metres, not litres.

Build for welfare before the achievement

1. Build the aquarium, connect its staff gate to a usable path and attach filtration. The aquarium guide explains the shared construction and maintenance controls.
2. Select saltwater and set a water temperature inside 10–25°C. Confirm both settings in the aquarium controls before adding the sunfish.
3. Check that the animal can access its required deep swimming space after scenery and barriers are placed. Keep the 300 m² minimum and 200 m² additional-animal field distinct when using the aquarium planner.
4. Start with one sunfish if the immediate aim is the welfare achievement. Reopen its individual welfare panel after arrival and fix each shortfall shown there, then review the tank again after adding animals or changing scenery.

How much rock and sand can you use?

Rock has a 20% ceiling even though sand and soil each allow a broad range. These are independent allowed ranges, not percentages to add together as a fixed recipe. Check the terrain panel after decorating the seabed.

Can Ocean Sunfish live together?

The preferred population is 1–3. A male-only or female-only group has a maximum of 3; a mixed group allows at most 2 males and 2 females, while still respecting the overall maximum of 3. The two sex limits do not permit a four-animal group.

The record labels the mating system Promiscuous. A solitary animal is within the population range, so adding a partner is a breeding decision, not a prerequisite implied by this population field.

Which tankmates are listed?

Neutral means the relationship is listed without a Thriving bonus; it is not proof that any mixed aquarium automatically meets every species’ water, space and group needs. Compare each candidate in the animal database. The Blacktip Reef Shark has its own relationship list, so do not transfer that list to the sunfish.

Ocean Sunfish breeding values

The captured gestation/incubation value is zero. It does not promise instant successful breeding: maturity, suitable animals and current welfare still need checking in the game. Before a birth, plan how to handle a population that could exceed the three-animal maximum.

Steam’s achievement condition is 100% welfare for an Ocean Sunfish. It does not require a three-sunfish group, a mixed-species aquarium or the separate 25 million litre aquarium achievement.
