How do you build an aviary roof?

The Sandbox showcase builds an aviary from 44:01, and the Zoo Tour visits the Toco Toucan aviary from 22:04.

  1. Build a closed loop of barriers with a staff gate, as for any habitat.
  2. Select the habitat and choose Add Roof. A flat roof generates from the barrier posts.
  3. Place pillars anywhere inside; the roof reshapes to meet them. Adjust pillar height and rotation.
  4. Change the roof material and how convex it is, from tent shapes to domes.

How much space do birds need?

Each species has its own flying-space requirement, listed in the Zoopedia. The aviary’s Info Panel shows its Flyable Area, and a bird’s welfare tells you if it needs more, which you can fix by raising the roof or expanding the habitat.

Do birds need nests?

Yes, to breed. Flying birds need nesting sites to lay eggs and raise young. Nest types suit different birds: cavity nests and cup nests for tree-dwelling birds, water platforms and mud nests for waders and ground birds. Cavity nests come with a camera so you can watch the eggs and chicks.

Can birds share an aviary with other animals?

Some can. Frontier enabled cohabitation between certain birds and with some land animals, but not all; check each species in the Zoopedia before mixing. Some sociable birds also allow walk-through aviaries: add a guest gate and a path through the habitat.

Which birds can fly in Planet Zoo 2?

These are the species the Zoopedia keeps in aviaries. The Common Ostrich and African Penguin are birds too, but they live in normal land habitats.
